Take A Walk Around The World With NTUC FairPrice

Take A Walk Around The World With NTUC FairPrice
30 August 2014, The Promontory @ Marina Bay

FairPrice Foundation will donate $100 to low-income families
for each sign up; targets to donate up to $1 million

NTUC FairPrice’s (FairPrice) signature walking event, FairPrice Walks With U, is back after a successful inaugural event last year which saw over 5,000 participants and $1 million dollars donated to help low-income families.

Targeted at families, FairPrice aims to promote family bonding and healthy living among Singaporeans through a themed walking event; this year’s theme is “Walk Around the World” where participants will be treated to a carnival of sights and sounds from countries like USA, Japan, and Brazil.

FairPrice expects to attract 6,000 participants this year from all walks of life, especially family units comprising three generations – children, parents and grandparents.

Similar to last year, the NTUC FairPrice will pledge $100 per registration to the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme via its Foundation. In addition, FairPrice will also pledge an additional $10 in FairPrice vouchers to the Food Voucher Scheme for every Instagram, Twitter or Facebook post that carries the official hashtag #fairpricewalk, along with an accompanying photo or line explaining why walking with one’s family is fun or memorable. FairPrice Foundation targets to donate up to $1 million to the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme for this event.

This year’s new route will see participants flagged-off at the Promontory against the iconic Marina Bay backdrop. The 5km walk will take the participants past the Marina Bay Sands as they make their way towards the Gardens By The Bay, eventually ending back at the Waterfront Promenade next to the Promontory.

Besides taking in the beautiful scenery, participants can also expect to be entertained by various entertainment acts along the walking route, which has been divided into zones, each representing a different country from around the world.

Immediately after the flag-off, participants will first be greeted by Samba dancers from Brazil, before coming across Greek statues under the Sheares Avenue Bridge.

The Nightingale - A Musical Play, Aug - Sept 2014 Singapore

The Nightingale - A ‘trill-ing’ musical play
1 Aug – 14 Sep 2014 (English); 18 Sep – 11 Oct 2014 (Mandarin)
DBS Arts Centre – Home of SRT
SRT’s The Little Company (TLC) continues its 2014 season with a new original children’s musical, The Nightingale, adapted from the Hans Christian Andersen classic The Emperor and The Nightingale.

With pop/hip hop score, The Nightingale will be unlike any children’s show seen before in Singapore. With book and lyrics by internationally acclaimed writer Mike Kenny (Railway Children), and music by Young Artist Award winner Ruth Ling.

This is a wonderfully moving story about a plain looking, brown Nightingale that spellbinds the Emperor of China with her lilting birdsong. The Emperor captures and keeps her in a gilded cage for his daily entertainment, but alas, along with her freedom, the beautiful voice of the Nightingale is lost, and a singing mechanical bird replaces her. Follow her on her quest to regain her voice and fly freely again. This is a wonderful tale that reminds us to appreciate and value the world around us.

After a six week run in English, audiences will also enjoy the opportunity to watch The Nightingale being performed in Mandarin for four weeks. The story could not be better suited to the job, especially since it’s a classic Chinese tale.

Charlie and Lola's extremely NEW play! June 2014 Singapore

Charlie and Lola's extremely NEW play
DBS Arts Centre - Home of SRT
From now till 15th June 2014
Review: Brilliant puppeteers, magical visual effects, amazing props and interesting storytelling, Charlie & Lola's extremely NEW play brings the bestest puppetry we have ever seen in the town. Pirate Squidbones adventure, cutest bed time acts, fun characters and dramatic change of seasons made it a perfect live stage show for families with young kids especially 2 - 4 years old. Falling leaves, sparkling lights, swaying fish and of course bubbles added life to the overall show. Charlie, Lola, Lotta, Marv, Sizzles and other characters though in puppet form looked exactly like they are shown on CBeebies TV series.

The moral of the story revolved around friendship, change and adventures. It was a full house with happy kids all over. However, we did see a few older kids sort of getting bored too, may be because they were already old for Charlie and Lola.

Verdict: If your kids are Charlie and Lola fans and if you would like to show them the real world class puppetry then this show is a must to go. However, the show is most suitable for kids between 2 and 4 years old. Overall, it was a good show and we were really impressed by the props as well as puppeteers.
