Review:
The Nightingale, one of the sweetest, simplest and melodious children's theatre plays we have seen this year. Cozy environment of the DBS theatre, colourful theme based Chinese sets and a truly nightingale like singing made it a perfect show for all of us. The Chinese Emperor looked cute and his expressions made kids laugh many times during the show. The Nightingale is based on a simple story of the Chinese Emperor who was deprived of the world and many other things outside his palace. Even so he was not aware what feelings were and the first time he had tears in his eyes, he thought it was water. When the maid told him about the nightingale, he was evenly surprised what it was. He lived a lavish emperor like life but all confined inside the walls. It was nothing less than a cage which he realized when he captivated the nightingale in the studded cage for his entertainment and when she nearly lost her voice and was about to die for freedom. He realized that no one can live in the cage.

The cast was well-spoken and clear in their dialogues and expressions. The dresses fit well for the show. As a mother watching my kids responding to and interacting with the cast, while enjoying the play was truly heartfelt. So much so our younger one was slightly unwell before the show but she had all forgotten about it and was too happy that she would not stop smiling :). The kids also loved the dog, frog, cow and the Nightingale.

Other than the Emperor of China, Nightingale, Protector and the maid played their respective characters very well.

Rating: 9.5/10 (Highly Recommended)
