Children’s Day Drama Workshop - Hug a Rhinoceros!

Children’s Day Drama Workshop

Hug a Rhinoceros
Inspired by Shel Silverstein’s stories and poems
For 3 to 9 year olds
3 October 2014

ACT 3 Drama Academy is pleased to announce its Children’s Day workshops – Hug a Rhinoceros – for three age groups: 3 years old, 4 to 6 years old and 7 to 9 years old.

Based on the stories and poems of Shel Silverstein, these one-day workshops are highly interactive and encourage children to offer ideas, verbalise thoughts and develop their sensory skills.  Three of Silverstein’s famous books – Who Wants a Cheap Rhinoceros?, The Giving Tree and Where the Sidewalk Ends – serve as brilliant backdrops for the workshop programmes. Told in the most hilarious manner but ultimately profound and heart-warming, these tales revolve around the themes of friendship, trust and acceptance.

Families for Life 800m Father and Child Challenge 2014

SAFRA SINGAPORE BAY RUN AND ARMY HALF MARATHON
Families for Life 800m Father and Child Challenge

Backed by his interest in sports and running in particular, it was a very proud moment for our 5 years old son whose happiness was undefinable at the time of this 800m Father and Child Challenge last Sunday, 31st Aug 2014. It was the first time he had ever participated in such an event and that too none other than with his dad. Of course the overall feel of participating on such a large scale and race medals added more to his happiness and now he's all set to take any such challenges in future. It was indeed a real family moment for all of us. Not only this, such events also promote healthy life styles among young families who might not even think of any such family bonding activities with kids.

The Families for Life 800m Father and Child Challenge is one of the activities under SAFRA’s partnership with Families for Life (FFL). Through this partnership, SAFRA and FFL aim to organise activities for NSmen and their families to interact and spend quality family time together and build strong family ties.

As part of the effort to encourage family-centric activities, two new records were set in the Singapore Book of Records for the “Largest gathering of people to wear masks” and the “Largest Father and Child Race”. Handheld masks were distributed during the warm up formation and each father-and-child pair ran hand-in-hand throughout the race.

The “Largest Father and Child Race” had a total of 737 pairs qualified for the new record at this year’s challenge, surpassing the previous record of 671 pairs in 2013. The “largest gathering of people to wear masks” saw 1,191 people set the Singapore record.

Jointly organised by SAFRA and the Army to promote bonding and fitness as a lifestyle among Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) national servicemen and their families, the event continued to garner strong support of more than 35,000 SAF regulars and national servicemen, and more than 3,500 of their immediate family members.

About 46,000 runners gathered at Marina Bay skyline for the SAFRA Singapore Bay Run & Army Half Marathon (SSBR & AHM) 2014.
