Review: Puss in Boots
Based on a traditional folk tale, Puss in Boots was an overall good show! A four year old and a todd in tow, we went to see the musical act of this amazing story of a boy and his clever talking cat in boots. How an intelligent cat uses trickery to fool the King and how she transforms her master from a poor boy to a "Marquis of Carabas" to a wealthy young man marrying the princess, the moral of the story revolved around deceptive appearances and that one should look beyond the surface, not to be fooled by others. Who will win the hand of the princess? Who will get eaten? Who will get rescued? The story involved evil ogres, a king and a princess apart from a cat and her master.

It was interactive! It was musical! It was fun! It was also an overall learning experience for the kids. We really liked the way they engaged audience and used flash cards to make kids learn - repeat a phrase "Marquis of Carabas" during the show.

The real sounds in the background such as when a boy jumps in the water, dialogues echoing like an interesting storytelling, props closed to perfect and characters dressed up in wonderful costumes made the overall show feel like real.

After the show, we also got a chance to have a meet & greet with the cast of the show as well discounts upon registering for the other shows at ACE Festival 2014.

Verdict: If you like the storyline and if you think your kids will like the characters, please do go for this show!

Synopsis
This July, Hansel & Gretel: An Eco Adventure promises to give the family an educational and fun-filled time complete with catchy songs, witty dialogue, beautiful set design and animated puppets.

Inspired by Hansel and Gretel, the well-known fairy tale written by the Brothers Grimm, Hansel & Gretel: An Eco Adventure is an exciting new original take on the adventures of the intrepid siblings on a typical day out looking for food. Along the way, Hansel and Gretel begin to realise that things are amiss as it becomes apparent that a strange force has upset nature!

As they befriend the creatures of the forest and set out to unravel the mystery, they are led to the Witch, who has disturbed the balance of nature in the forest with her actions. Now it is up to Hansel and Gretel to save the flora and fauna before it is too late!

Through the musical, the children learn that we must care for the plants and animals in our environment, and that our actions have an impact on the ecosystem. They discover with Hansel and Gretel that everything in nature is connected and preserving the balance in nature is important.

SINGAPORE’S FIRST SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD FESTIVAL 2014

SINGAPORE’S FIRST SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD FESTIVAL 2014
8 to 15 June 2014

WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Singapore’s inaugural Sustainable Seafood Festival is making waves with enthusiastic participation from businesses across the island, spanning over 30 establishments running exclusive “Pick The Right Catch” promotions during this week-long campaign.

The Festival, launched in tandem with World Oceans Day (8 June), and organised in partnership with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), hopes to create a new movement for responsible consumption of seafood by empowering suppliers, retailers, restaurants and consumers to ‘pick the right catch’. This means selecting seafood products that have been vetted through stringent standards by Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) or from the green list of the WWF Singapore Seafood Guide.

Singapore is one of the biggest seafood consumers in Asia-Pacific, devouring over 140 million kilogrammes a year. With more than 87% of the world’s oceans overfished, it is estimated that the world’s fish stocks will run out by 2048 if we do not act now.

In conjunction with the Festival, there will be marine conservation-themed roadshows and exhibitions during the month of June and beyond across Singapore to educate the public on the pressing need for responsible seafood consumption and long term food security.

Road Shows!
IKEA Tampines – 9 to 15 June
Woodlands Regional Library – 13 to 15 June
IKEA Alexandra – 7 to 13 July
Sembawang Shopping Centre – 7 to 13 July
Hougang Mall – 1 to 7 September
IKEA Tampines – 8 to 14 September
IKEA Alexandra – 8 to 14 September
Bedok Mall – 15 to 28 September

The public can look forward to exclusive “Pick The Right Catch” dining offers centered on sustainable seafood at participating restaurants and hotels.
