Review: Ace Festival 2014 - Puss in Boots

Drama Centre Theatre and Black Box,
National Library Building

Suitable for 2 to 18 years and families
Review: Puss in Boots
Based on a traditional folk tale, Puss in Boots was an overall good show! A four year old and a todd in tow, we went to see the musical act of this amazing story of a boy and his clever talking cat in boots. How an intelligent cat uses trickery to fool the King and how she transforms her master from a poor boy to a "Marquis of Carabas" to a wealthy young man marrying the princess, the moral of the story revolved around deceptive appearances and that one should look beyond the surface, not to be fooled by others. Who will win the hand of the princess? Who will get eaten? Who will get rescued? The story involved evil ogres, a king and a princess apart from a cat and her master.

It was interactive! It was musical! It was fun! It was also an overall learning experience for the kids. We really liked the way they engaged audience and used flash cards to make kids learn - repeat a phrase "Marquis of Carabas" during the show.

The real sounds in the background such as when a boy jumps in the water, dialogues echoing like an interesting storytelling, props closed to perfect and characters dressed up in wonderful costumes made the overall show feel like real.

After the show, we also got a chance to have a meet & greet with the cast of the show as well discounts upon registering for the other shows at ACE Festival 2014.

Verdict: If you like the storyline and if you think your kids will like the characters, please do go for this show!

Review: The Ant and the Grasshopper, Till 15th March 2014, Singapore

The Ant and The Grasshopper
Till 15 March 2014
For 3 to 12 years old and families
Venue: Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel

Review:

The show was simple yet Informative and promoted learning with fun and Interaction.

It's musical and all cute characters especially the two bees, a grasshopper, an ant and a caterpillar make it really funny for the kids. Short but disco appearance of the lady bird sparked the crowd to have some fun with music and lights. We also liked the way they involved the kids in trying out simple physical exercises and shared benefits of the same. The moral of the story revolved around importance of hard work and preparedness for the future which is known to come.

The ant was hardworking and well prepared for winters while the grasshopper was found as her complete opposite. The puppetry appearance of caterpillar also gelled well with the show. Last but not the least, families and kids can also take photos with the cast.

Overall, the setup and costumes were good. Rating: 8.5/10

Synopsis...
Once there lived three friends. An Ant - who never seemed to have time for play or relaxation. A Grasshopper, with nothing to do all day. And Caterpillar. All day long Ant would work hard, collecting and storing food in her larder. Grasshopper would laugh, and say. 'Why do you work so hard? Come, and rest awhile. Summer is here; why waste the sunshine in labour and toil?'

Whilst Caterpillar calmly carried on, doing what caterpillars do best... But Summer does not last long – and soon Winter and the frozen cold will come... What will happen to the three friends then?

A fast-paced and interactive musical, full of fun. Based on the famous Aesop’s Fable - with colourful characters, puppets and tuneful, catchy songs. Specially created with the younger audience in mind, but with unexpected twists and turns to keep even the grownups engaged, involved and on their toes!

Review: The Polliwogs @ VivoCity

Review:
The Polliwogs @ VivoCity
5 hours deemed not enough for our kids at The Polliwogs @ VivoCity last Sunday! Spreading across 5000 square feet with the stunning view of Resorts World Sentosa/Sentosa and a wonderful aqua theme, this new play gym offers many exciting and adventurous gym style attractions and activities both for the toddlers and bigger kids. This brand new, colourful and bright play gym is as much fun as its other famously known and liked branches at Robertson Walk and East Coast Park.
TODDLERS PLAY AREA
Like its other branches, this one also has a well-equipped independent soft-play area for toddlers (3 years and below). From activity panels to a ball pool to a fun merry-go-round mini carousel, it has many things to keep the toddlers happily occupied for hours.
MAIN PLAYGYM
Not only toddlers but older kids can have a blasting time too with giant wave slides, a trolley glide, a spider web climbing structure, ball cannons, ball pits, trampoline, colourful crawling tubes, soft punch bags and much more at the main play gym cum playground. There is even a lot of space for adults to follow the kids.... Haha!

Besides, a new style trampoline though is well secured with soft checkered nets on the top but still might not be suitable for toddlers and might require adult supervision. Otherwise, it's a perfectly fun adventure for older kids!

POLLIWOGS' CHARACTERS
Besides fun and play, you will find many photo-worthy spots with Polliwogs' characters: Rocky, Larry, Poco and Bobby.
CAFE
Not to mention, there is a nice cafe with healthy air-fried snacks (not deep-fried), variety of drinks, reading material, Internet, lockers, a charming view of Sentosa and above all an awesome staff.  Next to it is a small baby changing area too. In case a cafe gets crowded, the party rooms add up to this space, as we've heard!

We also got to know about the fireworks at RWS which you can apparently catch on Saturday nights!
PARTY ROOMS
There are two colourful party rooms too like other branches for birthdays or so.
VERDICT
The Polliwogs @ VivoCity is really a fun and a must-to-go place for young kids and families especially over the weekends.
