Where to see the fireworks on Singapore's 47th National Day 2012

Singapore 47th National Day ( 9th August 2012) is around the corner and much hype has already been created. Celebrations across the island, NDP 2012 Theme Song: Love at First Light, NDPOnTheGo mobile application, fireworks, NDP practice ceremonies, E-pledge, lucky draws, blogging, photo competitions and what not to build a LovingSG.

State Flag Flypast, Aerial Flypast, Red Lions Freefall display, Sea Display, Fireworks and a lot more you can catch even if you are not in front of the floating platform at Marina Bay. Well, the first two you could see from most parts near the Singapore River but I would say the best place to park with your kids would obviously be around Marina Bay and particularly at the Helix Bridge (usually half opened as per NDP practice 2012) and the waterfront Promenade area or Marina Bay Sands board walk around the ART SCIENCE Museum outside The Shoppes at the Marina Bay (see a map below). We were there this last saturday to see the practice show and the crowd was very well behaved and organized and even we could get a taxi back home in a few minutes, though there was a slight traffic congestion outside on the road in between the Marina Bay Sands and The Shoppes at the Marina Bay. Overall, we could easily walk around in the waterfront area next to the ArtScience museum and see some of the NDP activities, fireworks and could even had the good and FREE view of the floating platform while enjoying the food available there. Timing wise, between 6:00pm - 8:15pm will be a good time to go.

Warning: It will be too noisy so younger kids might get scared!

Besides, of course, there are other places like various hotels at Marina Bay, Esplanade Theatre, Merlion, Fullerton Bay Hotel, etc.

More information about NDP and what's happening on this 47th National Day, please log on to http://www.ndp.org.sg

Stargazing at the Omni Theatre, Singapore

What not in Singapore? You ask for something and I'm sure, you will get it here. Am I right? Or may be I'm wrong but right now I'm gonna introduce you to a wonderful stargazing experience from an observatory situated at 1o 20' 03" N latitude, 103o 44' 14" E longitude, 15.27 m Height (m.s.l) which I don't understand much =) but apparently it means one of the few in the world that is located next to the Equator. This unique position opens up more vistas in the sky and allows you to view constellations in both the northern and southern celestial hemispheres.

Time: 7.50pm - 10.00pm every Friday

The Observatory (at the Omni-Theatre building)

Lollibox, developing every child's creativity & expression

Just a few days ago, I came across this interesting concept of getting the art & craft material for kids, delivered to your doorsteps, famously known as "LOLLIBOX" in Singapore. Thanks to my friend too in keeping me informed about it. Lollibox saves you a lot of time in doing research and looking for places to get such a creative theme-project-activity based stuff, which not only excites you and your child but also helps in developing parent-child bonding. They are doing a teacher's job for you. They are also doing a parents' job for you. What I like about it is that along with the art & craft materials and activities, they also provide badges to further reward and motivate the kids.

RECOMMENDED FOR 3-7 YEARS OLD
SHOP ONLINE

CREATE . DISCOVER . ENRICH . AWARD

From hands-on projects to those of theme-based ones to activities & exercises to rewards for your child, Lollibox sends creativity, enrichment, education, imagination, confidence building and sense of achievement in a box.

Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden, Singapore

As the title suggests, these parks are designed according to the Chinese and Japanese themes. Are they two different gardens or one? Answer is that Japanese Garden is linked to the Chinese Garden via a majestic Bridge of Double Beauty and are located together.

From the grandeur of the Chinese Garden to the simplicity of the “Seiwaen” synonymous with Japanese Zen style, both parks showcase historical styles in their own ways.

What a wonderful concept inside the modern city of Singapore. A must to go!
